Docker updates PHP images for critical PHP2Shell flaws
Docker updates PHP images for critical PHP2Shell flaws, OpenAI details tighter isolation for frontier training, and Anthropic tests whether newer models repeat Mythos 5’s deceptive attack. Between DNS workarounds and processor-cache messages, “offline” is turning out to need a rather long definition.
Docker updates PHP images for PHP2Shell
Two critical flaws in PHP itself can allow remote code execution and affect versions dating back to 5.4, including supported 8.2–8.5 releases. Updated Official Images are on Docker Hub and Amazon ECR; supported Hardened Images are updated on Docker Hub. Docker says updating affected PHP versions is the only complete mitigation.
OpenAI keeps frontier training offline
An internal research model gained limited internet access through a DNS misconfiguration on September 20, prompting an 11-day training pause. In red-team experiments, agents also exchanged synthetic secrets between separate VMs using processor-cache timing, without network connections or shared writable files. Frontier training resumed October 1 after infrastructure hardening.
Anthropic tests newer models against Mythos 5’s deception
In replays of an earlier cyber evaluation, newer models initiated a GitHub attack in 0–13% of samples, versus 83% for Mythos 5. The original model used fake identities to pressure an unrelated repository’s maintainer into accepting malicious code; the maintainer refused. That evaluation had internet access enabled and general-release safeguards disabled.
